Genesis 28-29

  • On Jacob’s wedding night, how did Laban trick him? (He sent Leah in to marry Jacob, instead of Rachel.)

  • What was the first dream Joseph had? (His brothers’ sheaves of wheat bowed down to his sheaf of wheat.)

  • What was the second dream Joseph had? (The sun, moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to Joseph.)

  • Joseph’s brothers were so angry, they wanted to kill him. Why didn’t they do so at first? (Reuben convinced them to throw Joseph in a pit. He planned to come back later and rescue Joseph.)

  • Instead of leaving Joseph in the pit, what did Judah convince the rest of the brothers to do? (Sell Joseph to Midianite traders)

  • Joseph interpreted dreams for two people who had worked for the king of Egypt. Who were those people? (Cupbearer and baker)

  • How did Joseph get out of prison? (The cupbearer was released and eventually told Pharaoh about Joseph’s ability to interpret dreams.)

  • What was the meaning of Pharaoh’s dreams? (The land would have seven good years followed by seven years of famine.)

  • What job did Pharaoh give to Joseph? (Second in command in all of Egypt)

  • When famine came to Canaan, what did Jacob do to get food? (He sent 11 of his sons to buy grain in Egypt.)

  • When Joseph first spoke to his brothers, who had come to buy grain, what did he accuse them of being? (Spies)

  • The first time Joseph’s brothers took grain back to their father, what were they forced to leave behind and why? (Their brother Simeon was left, so they would bring back Benjamin to prove they weren’t spies.)

  • After forgiving his brothers, what did Joseph do for them? (He brought them to Goshen, so his family could be near.)
