God Provides in the Wilderness

Exodus 16-17 & Numbers 11

  • What does the word “manna” Mean in Hebrew? (“What is it?”)

  • What does the Bible tell us manna was like? (Coriander seed)

  • How much manna was each person to gather? (As much as each person could eat in a day)

  • How long were the Israelites to keep the manna they gathered? (Only that day)

  • What happened if they the Israelites tried to store manna overnight? (It got worms and stank)

  • In regard to manna, what did the Israelites do differently on the 6th day? (They gathered twice as much and had 2 days worth so that they did not work on the Sabbath.  This was the only day they could gather extra.)

  • For how long did God provide the Manna for the Israelites?  (40 years)

  • What did God tell Moses to do to the rock to get water to come out of it? (Strike it with the rod he struck the Nile with)

  • What did God create to send quail to the grumbling people? (A wind from the Lord)

Ten Commandments

Exodus 19 - 20:21 & Exodus 32-34

  • Where was Moses when God gave him the 10 commandments?  (Mt. Sinai)

  • What did the people see and hear when God was giving Moses the 10 Commandments?  (Thunder, lightening, smoke, and the sound of a trumpet)

  • What were the ten commandments and the rest of the law written on?  (Stone tablets)

  • How long was Moses on the Mountain with God? (40 days and 40 nights)

  • What happened while Moses was on Mt. Sinai?  (The people turned from God and melted their jewelry and made a golden calf and worshipped it.)

  • What happened with the tablets when Moses came down from the mountain and saw what they people were doing? (He got angry, threw them at the foot of the mountain, and broke them.)

  • What did the people do after Moses came down from the mountain and found them worshipping an idol?  (They repented and said they were sorry for what they had done.)

  • What was done with the calf that the Israelites worshipped at Mt. Sinai? (It was melted, ground to dust, and placed on the water. Then, Moses made the people drink it.)

12 Spies

Numbers 13:1 - 14:38

  • How were the 12 spies chosen to survey the land of Canaan? (One leader from each tribe)

  • How long did the 12 spies spend in Canaan? (40 days)

  • What three fruits did they gather and bring back to show? (Cluster of grapes on a pole, pomegranates, and figs)

  • What did the spies say the land flowed with? (Milk and honey)

  • How did the 10 doubtful spies say they looked compared to those living in Canaan? (Like grasshoppers to them)

  • What 2 spies thought they should/could take the land of Canaan? (Caleb and Joshua)

  • How did the Israelite people react? (They grumbled and doubted that God could help them truly get the land.)

  • How did God react to the Israelites grumbling?  (He had them wander the wilderness for 40 years.)

  • After 10 of the spies gave their negative report, whom did God allow to enter Canaan? (Joshua and Caleb and the children of the rest of Israel)

Balaam & the Donkey

Numbers 22:21-41

  • What did the Balaam’s donkey see in the road? (An angel of the Lord with a sword)

  • What did Balaam do when his donkey tried to go off the road into a field? (Struck it)

  • How many total times did Balaam’s donkey see the angel and try to turn and go another way? (3 times)

  • Each time the donkey tried to go a different way what did Balaam do? (Hit the donkey)

  • After the 3rd time Balaam hit his donkey, what did the Lord do?  (Opened the mouth of the donkey and made him speak to Balaam)

  • After the angel appeared to Balaam and corrected him, what happened?  (Balaam obeyed the angel and God.)
