Jesus Before Caiaphas & Peter’s Denial

(Matthew 26:57-75; Mark 14:53-72; Luke 22:54-62; John 18:12-27)

  • After Jesus was arrested, to whom did they take him?  (Caiaphas the High Priest)

  • As Jesus was being taken to Caiaphas, which disciple followed at a distance? (Peter)

  • How many false witnesses testified against Jesus before Caiaphas, saying that he would destroy the temple and build another? (Two)

  • After questioning Jesus, what did Caiaphas do? (Tore his robes and accused Jesus of blasphemy)

  • What judgement did Caiaphas pass on Jesus? (Death)

  • As Peter waited in the courtyard while Jesus was before Caiaphas, who recognized him first? (A servant girl)

Jesus Before Pilate & Herod

  • Judas wished that he hadn’t betrayed Jesus. What did he do with the thirty pieces of silver he had taken? (He threw it down in the temple.)

  • After throwing the money down in the temple, what did Judas do? (He hanged himself.)

  • What accusation was made against Jesus when he was brought before Pilate? (That Jesus was forbidding people from paying taxes to Caesar)

  • When Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the King of the Jews,” how did Jesus answer? (You have said so.)

  • The first time, did Pilate find Jesus guilty? (No)

  • What did Pilate do with Jesus after Jesus appeared before him the first time? (Pilate sent him to Herod, because Herod had jurisdiction over Galilea, Jesus’ home.)

  • When Jesus would not answer Herod’s questions, what did Herod and his soldiers do? (Mocked him and put him in splendid clothing)

  • What did Pilate do to show that he did not want to be guilty of killing Jesus? (Pilate washed his hands before the crowd.)

The Crucifixion

  • What did the Roman soldiers put on Jesus’ head?  (A crown of thorns)

  • Who helped carry Jesus’ cross? (Simon of Cyrene)

  • What was the name of the place where they crucified Jesus? (Golgotha)

  • What does Golgotha mean? (Place of the skull)

  • What did they do with Jesus’ clothes as he was crucified? (They cast lots for them.)

  • What did the sign over Jesus’ cross say? (This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.)

  • Who was crucified with Jesus? (Two robbers)

  • What happened from the sixth to ninth hour while Jesus was on the cross? (Darkness came over the land.)

  • What happened in the temple as Jesus died? (The veil in the temple was torn from top to bottom.)

  • Besides the temple veil ripping, what two other things happened when Jesus died? (There was an earthquake, and dead saints were raised and walked through Jerusalem.)

  • What did the centurion who witnessed Jesus dying say? (Truly this was the Son of God.)

  • Why didn’t the soldiers break Jesus’ legs to make him die quicker? (He was already dead.)

  • Instead of breaking Jesus’ legs, what did a soldier do, and then what happened? (The soldier pierced Jesus’ side. Water and blood flowed out.)

The Resurrection

  • Who had Jesus buried?  (Joseph of Arimathea)

  • How was Jesus’ tomb secured? (Sealed with a  large stone and soldiers to guard it)

  • Who removed the stone from Jesus’ tomb? (An angel)

  • The angel who moved the stone from Jesus’ tomb had an appearance like ______________. (Lightning)

  • What happened to the guards at Jesus’ tomb when they saw the angel? (They became unconscious, like dead men.)

  • When Peter and John were told that the tomb was empty, what did they do? (They ran to the tomb.)

  • Of Peter and John, who got to the tomb first? (John got there first but didn’t go in. Peter ran past and went in the tomb first.)

  • When Mary first saw Jesus after the resurrection, she didn’t realize it was him. At what point did she realize that it was Jesus? (When he said her name.)
