John Baptizes Jesus

Matt 3:1-17; Mark 1:1-11; Luke 3

  • Where was John the Baptist preaching? In the desert of Judea (Matthew 3:1)

  • What did John wear? He wore clothing made of camel’s hair and a leather belt around his waist.  (Matthew 4:4, Mark 1:6)

  • What did John eat? He ate locusts and wild honey. (Matthew 4:4, Mark 1:6)

  • What did John say was near? The Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 3:2)

  • John prophesied Jesus would baptize with which two things? The Holy Spirit and Fire (Matthew 4:11, Mark 1:7)

  • Where was Jesus baptized? The Jordan River (Matthew 4:13, Mark 1:9)

  • What did John say he needed from Jesus? “I need to be baptized by you”(Matthew 4:14)

  • Why did Jesus say he needed to be baptized? To fulfill all righteousness (Matt 4:15)

  • What happened when Jesus came up out of the water after being baptized? Heaven opened and the Spirit of God came down like a dove on him. (Matthew 4:16-17, Luke 3:22)

Temptation in the Desert

Matthew 4:1-17; Mark 1:12-13; Luke 4:1-13

  • Who tempted Jesus in the wilderness?  The devil (Matthew 4:1)

  • How long had Jesus been fasting when the tempter came to him? Forty days and forty nights (Matthew 4:2)

  • What was the first thing the devil told Jesus to do? Turn stones into loaves of bread. (Matthew 4:4)

  • The devil took Jesus to the top of the temple. What did he then tell Jesus to do? Jump off the top of the temple and let angles save you. (Matthew 4:5-6)

  • The devil took Jesus to a high place and showed him the kingdoms of the world. What did he then tell Jesus to do? Worship the devil and become king of all the world. (Matthew 4:8-10)

  • How did Jesus respond to each of the three temptations? He quoted scripture.

  • After the devil tempted Jesus, the devil the left. What happened then? Angels ministered to Jesus. (Matthew 4:11)

Wedding at Cana

John 2:1-11

  • In what region was Cana? Galilee (John 2:1)

  • Jesus and his disciples went to a wedding in Cana. What embarrassing thing happened?  The host ran out of wine. (John 2:3)

  • Who told the servants at the wedding to do whatever Jesus told them to do? His mother, Mary (John 2:5)

  • What did Jesus have the servants fill with water? Six stone water jars (John 2:6)

  • What did the master of the feast say about the wine that Jesus made from water? It was better than the wine served earlier. (John 2:10)

  • Where did Jesus, his family, and his disciples go after the wedding in Cana? Capernaum (John 2:12)

Jesus Cleanses the Temple

John 2:13-25

  • Why was Jesus in Jerusalem?  For the Passover (John 2:13)

  • What did Jesus find in the temple? Animals being sold and money being exchanged (John 2:14)

  • What did Jesus make when he saw that the temple had become a place for doing business? A whip of cords (John 2:15)

  • What did Jesus do with the whip he made? Drove the animals and sellers out of the temple (John 2:15)

  • What did Jesus do to the money-changers’ tables? Turned them over (John 2:15)

  • When Jesus was asked for a sign to show that he was in the right for cleansing the temple, what did Jesus say? Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. (John 2:19)

  • What was Jesus talking about when he talked of the temple begin destroyed and raised in three days? His own body (John 2:21-22)
