The Lame Man Lowered

Mark 2:1-12, Luke 5:17-26

  • A group of four men brought their paralyzed friend to Capernaum to be healed by Jesus. Why couldn’t they get to him? There were so many people in the house, you couldn’t even get in the door. (Mark 2:2)

  • When the four men couldn’t get their paralyzed friend in the house to see Jesus, what did they do? They removed the roof and lowered their friend on a bed. (Mark 2:4)

  • After the paralyzed man was lowered through the roof, what was the first thing Jesus did for him? Forgave his sins (Mark 2:5)

  • After Jesus forgave the paralyzed man’s sins, what did the scribes accuse Jesus of? Blaspheming (Mark 2:7)

  • What sign did Jesus do to show that he has the authority on earth to forgive sins? He healed the paralyzed man. (Mark 2:11-12)

Man Healed At the Pool of Bethesda

John 5:1-16

  • What is the Aramaic name for the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem?  (Bethesda)

  • When Jesus saw the lame mad at the pool of Bethesda, what did Jesus ask the man?  (Do you want to be healed?)

  • Why hadn’t the lame man ever gotten into the water of the pool of Bethesda?  (He had no friends to lower him into the pool.)

  • What day of the week did Jesus visit the pool of Bethesda?  (Sabbath, Saturday)

  • What did Jesus say to the man at the pool of Bethesda to heal him?  (Get up, take up your bed, and walk.)

Matthew 5-7

  • Jesus began the Sermon on the Mount with eight beatitudes. What were the first two words of each statement?  (Blessed are)

  • What is the first of the beatitudes?  (Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.)

  • The Law of Moses said you shouldn’t murder. What did Jesus say you should’t do?  (Don’t be angry with your brother.)

  • What did Jesus say you should do if you are angry with your brother?  (Go quickly and make up.)

  • What did Jesus say you should do if someone forces you to walk a mile?  (Walk two)

  • What did Jesus say you should do to those who persecute you?  (Pray for them.)

  • What instruction did Jesus give for us to follow when giving to those who are needy?  (Do it in secret.)

  • Jesus says we shouldn’t worry about our clothes. Why?  (If God can give beautiful clothes to lilies in the field, he will take care of you.)

  • What is the golden rule? (Whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them.)

  • How does Jesus describe the path that leads to life?  (The gate is narrow, and the way is hard.)

  • When Jesus finished the Sermon on the Mount, the crowds were astonished because he was teaching them as one who had ___________.  (Authority)

The Faith of the Centurion

Matthew 8:5-13; Luke 7:1-10

  • What is a Centurion? (A Roman officer over 100 men)

  • Where was Jesus when the Centurion sent word to him?  (Capernaum)

  • What kind thing had the Centurion done for the Jews of Capernaum? (He built their synagogue.) 

  • Why did the Centurion send a message to Jesus?  (The Centurion’s servant was sick, paralyzed, and suffering.)

  • What did Jesus say when he was told of the Centurion’s servant? (I will come and heal him.)

  • Did Jesus go to the Centurion’s house?  Why? (No, because the Centurion said he wasn’t worthy to have Jesus in his house.)

  • The Centurion said to Jesus, "I too am a man under ____________."  (Authority)
