Mary Anoints Jesus at Bethany

Matthew 26:6-13; Mark 14:1-11; John 12:1-8

  • What town was Jesus in when he was anointed with expensive ointment? (Bethany)

  • What was Jesus doing when Mary anointed him? (He was reclining at the table in Simon the leper’s house.)

  • Matthew and Mark mention that Mary anointed Jesus' head. John says that she also anointed his feet. What else did she do to his feet? (She wiped them with her hair.)

  • Why were the disciples upset when Jesus was anointed with expensive ointment? (They said it could have been sold and the money given to the poor.)

  • Which disciple did John specifically say was upset about the expensive ointment being used to anoint Jesus? (Judas)

Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem

  • For what reason did the crowds celebrate Jesus as he rode into Jerusalem? (Those who had seen Jesus raise Lazarus from the
    dead had been telling everyone what happened.)

  • What did some of the Pharisees want Jesus to do when the crowd was celebrating his entry into Jerusalem? (Rebuke the disciples.)

Jesus Cleanses the Temple Again

Matthew 21:12-27; Mark 11:12-33; Luke 19:45-48

  • Why were there money changers in the temple? (Because people traveled to Jerusalem from all around, and they needed to exchange their money local money.)

  • Why were people selling pigeons in the temple? (They sold them for use as sacrifices.)

  • What did Jesus say the money-changers and merchants had made his house into? (A den of robbers)

  • After Jesus cleansed the temple, who came to him in the temple and why? (The blind and lame came for healing.)

The Greatest Command

Matthew 22:23-40; Mark 12:18-34

  • What was a teaching of the Sadducees? (There is no resurrection.)
